Catholic Charities is offering two opportunities to attend the annual Respect Life Celebration. The Spanish-language event will take place on Wednesday, October 7, 2015. The English-language event will take place on Thursday, October 8, 2015. Attend one or both!
Both will take place at Nativity Catholic Church (3635 Pollack Avenue, Evansville; see map below), and begin with Mass at 5:30 p.m. (Central time). Most Reverend Charles C. Thompson, Bishop of the Diocese of Evansville, will preside. A catered dinner and keynote address will follow on the Nativity campus. Both events conclude at 8:15 p.m.
Keynote Speaker: Most Reverend Thomas Wenski, Archbishop of Miami
The keynote speaker will be Most Reverend Thomas Wenski, Archbishop of Miami and Metropolitan of the Province of Miami.
Archbishop Wenski has served as the Archdiocese of Miami Director of Catholic Charities, one of the largest Catholic social service agencies in the U.S.; chair of CLINIC (Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc.); chair of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' (USCCB) Committee on Migration; and chair of the the Conference's Committee on International Justice and Peace.
Presently, Archbishop Wenski is chair of the USCCB's Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development; consultant to the Committee on Migration; member of the Secretariat for the Church in Latin America; and consultant to the Committee on International Justice and Peace.
In addition to English, Archbishop Wenski speaks Haitian Creole and Spanish fluently and preaches and celebrates Mass regularly in both languages.
