 Natural Family Planning (NFP) is a general term that refers to various natural methods of family planning which are based on scientific research and the observation and charting of various biological markers to determine the time of ovulation. NFP is medically safe and morally acceptable. It is also 96-98% effective in avoiding a pregnancy if taught and used correctly.
The method of NFP that Catholic Charities teaches is the Creighton Model Fertility Care System. Locally, we have three FertilityCare™ Centers.
Professional services in the Creighton Model FertilityCare System™ are offered at four locations in the Diocese of Evansville area. Each provider offers instruction in responsible parenthood for achieving or avoiding as well as for monitoring, maintaining and evaluating a woman's health.
The Creighton Model FertilityCare System™ is a safe, flexible, and effective means of true family planning. In 1998, the Journal of Reproductive Medicine published a large study showing the method is 99.5% effective in avoiding a pregnancy. Couples can also use the method very reliably to achieve a pregnancy. The Creighton Model FertilityCare System™ has also been very helpful in assisting couples with infertility problems to achieve a pregnancy. The method is excellent for safeguarding the woman's procreative and gynecologic health.
An important starting point for a couple considering the Church's teaching on family planning is the Creighton Model FertilityCare System™ Introductory Session. Scheduling information for the four local centers is listed below.
